Cape Disappointment

A unique stop on Washington State’s coastline, Cape Disappointment offers amazing scenic views, history leading back to the discovery of the great Northwest, and abandoned war bunkers that have been built and rebuilt throughout different wars. This was my second time visiting this special place for a specific reason, King Tides. A few times out of the year, King tides arrive to the western shores of the US that marvel in size and can also be very dangerous. I spent the weekend in the small town of Ilwaco to brace for these epic waves. I was not at all disappointed.

The Salt Hotel and Pub is a great place to stay in Ilwaco. It sits along the harbor leading up to Cape Disappointment and provides cozy rooms at a reasonable rate. The Pub shines with it’s view of the harbor and tasteful aesthetic. The environment is inviting, and thrives in a feel good atmosphere. The menu is small, and dedicated to fresh caught seafood. They make sure to mention if it’s cheese or ice cream - it’s Tillamook.
